How to Play Louisiana Powerball

LA Powerball works similarly to Powerball games in other US states. You pick five white balls from a selection numbered 1 to 69, and one red ball from 1 to 26. If you like to pick your own numbers, you can do that, or, to save time, you can choose for the Lottery’s software to choose random numbers for you through the Quick Pick option.

There are several ways to play LA Powerball:

  • Visit a Lottery Play Center licensed to sell Powerball tickets — Ask the retailer for a Powerball payslip and fill in the numbers and additional game options in either blue or black ink. The clerk can also issue the Quick Pick ticket with up to 10 selections.
  • Create a digital payslip — Download the Louisiana Lottery Official mobile app and create a virtual payslip. Choose the numbers, select all the game options you want to include in your ticket, and save it on your phone. At the Lottery Play Center checkout, show the code so that your ticket can be printed.

Unfortunately, you can’t buy LA Powerball tickets online since state law doesn’t allow the online sale of lottery products. However, you can add extra features and increase the potential of winning the jackpot, these include:

  • Power Play — For an additional $1, you can add Power Play to your payslip and boost non-jackpot prizes by 2x, 3x, 4x, or 5x. There’ll be a 10x multiplier added to any jackpot prize up to $150. If you match the five white balls, players who added the Power Play option to their slip will double the $1 million prize!
  • Multidraw — If you want to play the same numbers in consecutive draws, choose the Multidraw feature and participate in multiple draws with your chosen selection. You can play your numbers across two, three, four, five, ten, or 20 lottery draws. If any of the selected draws happen to bag you the grand prize, you’ll get an exchange ticket for the remaining number of draws.
  • Replay — If you have no more draws left on your payslip but want to keep playing the same numbers, games options, and the number of draws, you can present the expired ticket to the retailer and request the Replay option.

LA Powerball Drawing Schedule

Louisiana Powerball draws are organized every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 9:59 PM. You should buy your tickets by 9 PM on the drawing day. If you buy your ticket after the deadline, it will be eligible for the next draw.

Louisiana Powerball Payouts and Prize Amounts

LA Powerball is a classic game of chance and involves pretty simple rules. Simply pick – yourself or automatically – five numbers between 1 and 69 and one Powerball number between 1 and 26.

Each payslip allows you to play up to five selections of numbers. Once your payslip is printed, wait for the draws every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday.

That’s about it for the rules, nothing else to worry about! Let’s take a look at potential prizes you can win for particular matches and the odds of those matches occurring:

Numbers Matched Prize Odds of Winning
5 white balls + 1 red Powerball Jackpot 1: 292,201,338
5 white balls $1,000,000 1: 11,688,054
4 white balls + 1 red Powerball $50,000 1: 913,129
4 white ball $100 1: 36,525
3 white balls + 1 red Powerball $100 1: 14,494
3 white balls $7 1: 580
2 white balls + 1 red Powerball $7 1: 701
1 white ball + 1 red Powerball $4 1: 92
Red Powerball $4 1: 38

How to Claim Louisiana Powerball Prizes

If you’ve won a prize of up to $600, you can claim it at any lottery retail shop by presenting your winning payslip to the retail clerk. If your prize is between $600 and $5,000, you can claim it either:

If you decide to claim your prize by mail, you should complete the information on the back of your winning ticket and sign the payslip. All the information, as well as barcodes, must be clearly visible. You’ll have to complete the Louisiana Lottery Prize Claim Form with your telephone number and correct mailing address.

Take copies of these documents together with a copy of your valid driver’s license or any other current photo ID in a single envelope and send it to:

Louisiana Lottery Corporation

Attn: Prize Validations

P.O. Box 90010

Baton Rouge, LA 70879-0010

Players who use the mail option to claim their prize are advised to keep the original winning payslip in case of any problems.

To claim a prize over $5,000, you need to visit a lottery office and bring the original paper slip with you. You must claim your prize within 180 days of the drawing date or your payslip will be considered void.

Louisiana Powerball Biggest Winners

If you’ve ever wondered about those lucky winners that got the chance to take home amazing prizes, here are some of them:

  • In 2008, Carl Hunter became the biggest winner in the history of Louisiana. He won $97 million thanks to a Quick Pick ticket bought at a Shell gas station.
  • That same year was also lucky for Emilia Delgado, who bought a ticket at Brothers Food Mart and won $34.1 million.
  • In 2017, a new record was set as a $191 million Powerball jackpot prize was claimed in Baton Rouge. The prize was claimed by an attorney on behalf of the jackpot winner who has chosen to stay anonymous.

Louisiana Powerball History and Facts

  • In 2003, voters decided that the Minimum Foundation Program, which funds public education in Louisiana, gets a percentage of the state Lottery funds.
  • You must be at least 21 to purchase an LA lottery ticket.

Other Louisiana Lotteries

The Louisiana Lottery offers many other game options apart from Powerball. Feel free to try Mega Millions, Lotto, Easy 5, Pick 4 or Pick 3.
