About the Washington, DC Lottery
The Washington, DC Lottery started in 1982. It was one of the first members of the US’ Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL).
Like states such as Louisiana and Connecticut, the DC Lottery’s proceeds go to the district’s general fund. These are then distributed among different services such as public safety, housing, and education. The DC Lottery also runs a Charitable Games division that licenses charitable gaming activities like Bingo and Raffle to local nonprofits.
Since its inception, the DC Lottery has paid out over $3 billion in prizes. It has also raised more than $2 billion for the district’s general fund. Through its charitable gaming licenses, it has also helped nonprofits raise over $131 million for various social causes.
DC Lottery Tickets
The DC Lottery only allows you to buy tickets in person at any of the authorized Lottery retailers throughout the district. Lottery game Tickets cannot be sold through mail or online.
Can I buy DC Lottery tickets online?

Washington, DC Lottery Games and Drawing Schedules
Lucky for Life
Aside from Powerball and Mega Millions, Lottery also offers another multi-state game: Lucky for Life. Other states that participate in the game include North Dakota, Nebraska, and Idaho.
To play, you must pick 5 numbers from 1-48 plus a Lucky Ball number from 1-18. A jackpot win gives you $1,000 a day for life — all you need to do is match all 6 winning numbers. The second prize win, meanwhile, gives you $25,000 a week for life. You can win this by matching all 5 regular numbers but not the Lucky Ball.
Lucky for Life draws take place every Monday and Thursday at 10:38 PM.
DC-5
DC-5 is one of the DC Lottery’s bigger draw games. It runs twice a day and offers a jackpot of $50,000 for each draw. Your highest possible prize amount, however, depends on the type of wager you make.
To play, you must pick 5 numbers, each from 0-9. Then, you must select a draw type (day, evening, or both) and choose from the following playstyles:
- Straight: You must match the winning numbers in the exact order.
- Box: You can match the winning numbers in any order.
- Front/Back Pair: You play 2 numbers instead of the usual five. Depending on whether you chose to play Front or Back Four, these must match the first or last four numbers in exact order.
- Front/Back Three: You play 3 numbers instead of the usual five. Depending on whether you chose to play Front or Back Three, these must match the first or last four numbers in exact order.
- Front/Back Four: You play 4 numbers instead of the usual five. Depending on whether you chose to play Front or Back Four, these must match the first or last four numbers in exact order.
DC-4
The DC-4 lottery runs twice a day and offers a jackpot of $5,000 for each draw. However, like the DC-5 game, your wager determines how large a prize you can win.
To play, you must select 4 numbers, each from 0-9. Then, you must select a draw type (day, evening, or both) and choose from the following playstyles:
- Straight: You must match the winning numbers in the exact order.

- Straight/Box: You can match the winning numbers in exact or any order.
- Front/Back Three: You play 3 numbers instead of the usual five. Depending on whether you chose to play Front or Back Three, these must match the first or last four numbers in exact order.

- Straight/Box: You can match the winning numbers in exact or any order.
