About the Maryland Lottery
The Maryland Lottery has been operating since 1973 under the Gaming Control Agency’s direction. The MD lottery raises funds for education, public health, public safety, and the environment in the Old Line State, donating around $18 billion to various causes over the years. Furthermore, it has generated more than $28 billion in prizes.

- You must be at least 18 years old to purchase a Maryland Lottery ticket.
- You have to buy lottery tickets from one of the official Lottery retailers across the state.
- You can purchase tickets with cash, debit cards, or checks.
- You must not forge, alter, or resell tickets.
- You need to sign the winning ticket after buying it to verify that you are its rightful owner.

Maryland Lottery Tickets
If you’re 18 or above, you can purchase the tickets at any of the 4,400 authorized retail locations in the state. Remember that the draw games’ winning tickets are valid for 182 days after the drawing date. If you lose track, you can find the deadlines for claiming the prizes for scratch-off tickets on the Maryland Lottery website’s scratch-off section. If you cannot find the date for your specific scratcher, expect it to be announced with 182 days’ notice.
Can I Buy MD Tickets Online?
Unfortunately, that’s not possible. To play, you have to buy a ticket from a Lottery Retailer in the state. Players who use the MD Lottery mobile apps can create play slips for certain games in the app, but these still have to be scanned by the retailer.
Maryland Lottery Games and Drawing Schedules
Powerball
This game gives its players a chance to bag a rolling jackpot starting at $4,000,000. To play, you have to select five numbers between 1 and 69 and one Powerball number between 1 and 26. Each play costs $2, but you can up your chances of winning if you add Power Play or Double Play to your ticket for a dollar more per play. Drawings and lottery results are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, at 10:59 p.m. EST.
Mega Millions
Mega Millions is another jackpot game that you can participate in for just $2 per play. The rules are simple: you just need to pick five numbers from 1 to 70 and one Mega Ball number from 1 to 25. If you add the Megaplier mode to your ticket for $1 per play, you can multiply your winnings. Mega Millions drawings lottery results take place on Tuesday and Friday at 11:00 p.m. EST.
Pick 3
With Pick 3, you can win prizes twice a day. You’ll have to pick a three-digit combination from 000 to 999, including a bet type, bet value, and a drawing time, to play. The available playstyles are:
- Straight — With this bet type, you have to match the winning numbers in the exact order.
- Combo — This playstyle allows you to place a Straight bet on any combination of your three selected digits.
- Box — If you opt for this one, you can match the drawn numbers in any order.
- Straight/Box — Here, you can match your numbers in either the exact or any order.
- Front Pair — As the name suggests, you’ll have to match the first two digits of the winning numbers in the exact order.
- Back Pair — Here, you’ll have to match your last two digits to the drawn numbers in the exact order.
You can select up to five number sets on each playslip. You can wager $0.50 or $1, except when using Combo or Straight/Box bet types. The former can cost $0.25, $0.50, or $1 per wager, while the latter costs $1 per ticket ($0.50 for each playstyle). With Advance Play, you can play the same number combinations in future drawings.
Numbers are drawn twice a day. The first draw takes place at 12:27 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and at 12:28 p.m. on weekends, while the second is at 7:56 p.m. Monday through Saturday and at 8:22–8:30 p.m. on Sundays.
Pick 4
The MD Lottery’s Pick 4 follows the same rules as Pick 3, with a few exceptions. To play Pick 4 you have to select four digits from 0000 to 9999 instead of three. Moreover, this game doesn’t offer its players Front and Back Pair playstyles. Both the prices and the drawing schedules are the same as in the previously-described game.

If your ticket features a pair of Jacks or better, you instantly win a prize. You can also exchange the ticket for another one and wait for the evening drawing.
During the drawing, five cards are selected from a deck of 52. You win by matching two, three, four, or five cards. Drawings are held daily, at 7:56 p.m. from Monday to Saturday and at 8:22–8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
