About the South Dakota Lottery
The South Dakota Lottery launched in 1987 after voters approved an amendment to the state’s constitution. In 1989, South Dakota became the first state to offer a video lottery and has successfully defended several repeals of video lottery games.
In 1990, the South Dakota Lottery joined the Multi-State Lottery Association, and in 1993, Dakota Cash became South Dakota’s flagship cash lotto game.
Since its inception, the South Dakota Lottery has contributed more than $3 billion to support gambling addiction treatment services, environmental causes, education, recycling and waste disposal programs, drinking water and waste-water improvement projects.
SD Lottery Rules
- You must be 18 or older to play Scratch and Lotto games;
- You must be 21 or older to play Video Lottery;
- Tickets cannot be sold by mail, phone or internet;
- Tickets must be bought from a licensed South Dakota retailer.
South Dakota Lottery Tickets
South Dakota Lottery tickets must be purchased from a licensed retailer. Winning tickets are valid for up to 180 days from draw day for online games, while Scratch games also remain valid for 180 days following their end date.

Powerball
Pick five numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball from 1 to 26. Tickets cost $2 per play or $3 with optional Power Play or Double Play. Power Play will double the ‘Match 5’ jackpot prize and apply a multiplier on other non-jackpot prizes, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x.
Double Play gives players a second chance to match their numbers in a separate draw with a top prize of $10 million. Tickets must be purchased by 9pm (CT) on the draw nights.

Mega Millions
If you want tot play Mega Millions, pick five numbers from 1 to 70 and one Mega Ball from 1 to 25. Tickets cost $2 per play or $3 with optional Megaplier play. The Megaplier applies a multiplier to non-jackpot lottery prizes by 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x. Mega Millions tickets must be purchased by 9pm (CT) on draw nights.

Lotto America
To start off, Lotto America pick five numbers from 1 to 52 and one All Star Ball from 1 to 10. Lotto America tickets cost $1 per play or $2 with optional All Star Bonus which applies a multiplier to non-jackpot prizes by 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x. The jackpot starts at $2 million and tickets must be purchased by 9pm on draw nights.

Dakota Cash
Dakota Cash is exclusive to SD, tickets cost $1 per play or $2 with optional EZ match instant win feature. Pick five numbers from 1 to 35. Tickets must be purchased by 9pm (CT) on draw nights and the jackpot starts at $20,000.

Lucky For Life

South Dakota Lottery Second Chances – What is Second Chance?
Second chance games give players another opportunity by re-entering a ticket that wasn’t a winner the first time around. By becoming a member of the South Dakota Players Club, players can enter second chance draws for selected Scratch games. All you need to do is scan the barcode for that Scratch ticket to be in with the chance of winning a prize.
How Does Second Chance Work for the SD Lottery?
Players Club members can check the list online for eligible Scratch games and when the second chance draw is due. Players are able to enter up to 40 eligible non-winning Scratch tickets within a 24 hour period.
